About Judy
Judy Luddy remembers the moment during her father’s visit to Ann Arbor when he nudged her with a suggestion. ”Why don’t you think about getting into the field of life insurance?” The moment proved a prophetic one.
When the Luddy family moved back to New England, Judy discovered, with the invitation and encouragement of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), a personal frontier of opportunity and service. It was not long before she was bringing to both daytime office settings and kitchen table evenings her increasing professional training and her perspective as daughter, wife and mother.
After years of such contrasting roles as that of 4H mom and docent at the Emily Dickinson Homestead, Judy is now quite active in Zonta International, an organization dedicated to advancing the status of women worldwide. She is also very involved in Women in Insurance and Financial Services (WIFS) at the national level, and has been instrumental in establishing a chapter of this educational organization in western New England. She has especially enjoyed being a board member and former chair of the International Language Institute (ILI) based in Northampton, Massachusetts. The coast-to-coast locations of the four grown Luddy children and non-tourist travels in Latin America and Europe have enhanced her professional and personal perspectives.
A Proud Moment
One of Judy’s proudest moments occurred during the July 2007 Danskin Triathlon, a national benefit event for breast cancer research for which MassMutual is a corporate sponsor.
Not only did she participate in the New England event (“I finished, and I didn’t drown!” she laughs) but her three daughters: Lucy, Hadley and Dixie — participated with her. She and her daughters also participated in 2008, joined by son John's wife, daughter-in-law Tami Luddy.
Judy lives and gardens in Amherst where, she says, she is assisted all too seldom by her otherwise helpful husband Fred.
